Saratoga 6 leg model
From the 1908-1909 Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co., catalog, page 26:
A high grade table which will find great favor in the best billiard rooms, clubs and hotels of the country.
Produced under 18 construction patents awarded from 1892 to 1905.
Proficiency in the science of billiard playing has been developed to a marked degree by professionals and amateurs during the past few years. The very pronounced improvement that has taken place in the greatest of indoor amusements is attributable in no small degree to our having spared neither pains nor expense to bring our billiard and pool tables to a higher state of perfection.
A few years ago the 4.5' x 9' size of billiard table was used almost exclusively in the principal billiard rooms of the United States. Today the demand is largely for the 5x10 size. High scores on the smaller size table would be easy of accomplishment for the progressive billiardists of the present time.
The 5x10 size six leg Saratoga table with heavy slate is in perfect keeping, or rather a little in advance of prevailing conditions. The use of this table means greater proficiency on the part of the player.
It has not as high-class ornamentation as that of the Pfister table, but with all, is very handsome and substantial. We can recommend it as a thoroughly high-grade billiard or pool table.
The slate bed is best quality Vermont one inch thick, the sections being joined with brass dowels and sockets. No screw holes on the playing surface. Can be furnished with slate 11/2" in thickness where desired, at a small advance in cost.
The cushions are the celebrated quick acting Monarch, guaranteed the most perfect angle cushion in the world. Used by all professional players in America and Europe.
The cushion rails are of extra heavy construction and firmly bolted to the slate bed. The cushion rail tops are veneered with rosewood, which does not change color, cannot be easily disfigured and does not have the objectionable features of a polished surface. |
