Antique Tables
Richelieu, 4 leg model
Technical Information: From page 34 of the 1912 Carom and Pocket Tables Catalogue of the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company.

The Richelieu (with four legs): No Billiard room too fine for this table.

"The Richelieu is certain to prove a trade winner. It has a style of construction and ornamentation that can be depended upon for a lifetime of good service." Design patent awarded May 7, 1912. Produced under various patents granted from 1892 to 1905.

Wood and Finish: Furnished in either Quarter-sawed oak or handsomely figured Mahogany. The oak is finished in our No. 6 medium or Golden color and the Mahogany in our regular No. 2 stock color and in what is known as an egg shell gloss, which means that after being given the ordinary cabinet finish, it is hand rubbed to a dull polish which can be more easily kept clean than any other finish.

Construction: The heavy o.g. body of this table is what is known in our factory as the Jumbo frame work, which means it has unusual strength. The upper part of the side and end sections of the body are 4 1/2" thick on top x 15 1/2" wide, tapering to a thickness of 2" at the lower edge. All of this is built up in compound construction, being tongued and grooved and glued. The exterior is reinforced with a double thickness of veneer placed in an alternate run of grain. Cross stretchers 1 1/4" thick x 9" wide. These are double and reinforced with heavy iron bolts attached to the supporting blocks into which they are mortised. Long stretchers are 1 3/4" x 5 1/2", making a firm and substantial bridge work. The legs are 8" square x 19" high. Leg caps are 3 3/4" thick x 6" square. The legs are built up in compound construction, tongued and grooved, doweled and reinforced by corner blocks, double cross veneered and rigidly built into end frame work of body. 5/8" frame bolts reinforced by hardwood dowels holding sides to end sections. Lookout supporting blocks 2" thick. The wood construction is all of the very best quality, cabinet made and put together in a most thorough manner. All joints tongued and grooved, strongly doweled and glued or screwed firmly together. All mitres absolutely accurate. All corner and edges made perfectly smooth and true.

Cushion Rails: 4 1/4" x 2" thick, compound construction built up of various kinds of hardwoods of different grain to insure strength and durability. Invisible cushion bolts covered by what is known as Blind Cushion Rails, made in several thicknesses of material placed in an alternate run of grain. Fancy figured veneer on the exterior. Cap rails 7/8" thick x 2 3/4" wide. Rosewood tops 1/4" thick, solid rosewood corners. Ivory diamond sights. Inlaid metal fancy name plate. Eight rail bolts on each side and 4 on each end of 4 1/2' x 9' table and 10 rail bolts on each side and 5 on each end of 5 x 10' table.

Slate bed: Best quality Vermont slate, 3 pieces to the set. All joints secured with brass dowels and sockets, with no screw holes in playing surface. Regulation slate 1" thick. When so ordered, can be furnished with slate 1 1/2" thick. Hardwood trim at pocket openings.

Cushions: The cushions, unless otherwise specified, are our celebrated No. 1845 Match Game, perfect angle Monarch. These cushions are made in our own rubber plant at Muskegon, Michigan, from a secret formula which is used exclusively by us. Our guarantee as to their accuracy of angle, speed and durability is evidenced by the nameplate countersunk in the top of the cushion rail.

Pockets: The pocket irons are No. 5 style which are countersunk in the ends of the cushion rails by means of a brass socket. Black cover leathers are reinforced at point of contact, giving extra durability. Best quality red trimming leather and green fringe. No. 10 first grade green worsted pocket nets.
