| Why do I need to chalk my cue stick? |
Properly used, chalk prevents miscues and aids in putting "English" on the ball. Use quality chalk in good condition. Hold tightly against the cue tip and rotate with a few half-turns of the wrist.
Periodically check your chalk and discard badly worn or broken pieces. Chalk with a deep hole in it makes cue points dirty and wears ridges around cue tips. Reduce the depth of the hole formed by cueing by rubbing chalk over a piece of coarse sandpaper.
Chalk is applied to protect your cue tip. Grinding chalk and tip together destroys the cue tip edges and causes miscues.
